Henry Holland's star began its ascent in the fashion world after he graduated form the London College of Printing with a BA in Journalism, after which he launched his "Fashion Groupies" slogan t-shirts, with punchy catchphrases like "Get Your Freak On Giles Deacon." Holland began his career in fashion design showing for two seasons with Fashion East, a non-profit initiative formed to "nurture emerging young designers" that is sponsored in part by Topshop. His first solo show was held in February 2008 and was critically acclaimed. Designed for a "cool, confident, and savvy" girl, House of Holland is surely one of the most promising young brands to hit the fashion scene.
House of Holland's fall 2012 collection was a strong assortment of looks focusing on the combination of color and pattern. The looks were a twist on classic mod style, with retro platform booties and a fiery red pout painted onto each model's lips. A-line color-blocked dresses had a retro vibe yet were modernized with geometric details paired with subtle black stripes. Bright zig-zag designs were cheerful while maintaining sophistication with simple but chic silhouettes. A Cruella Deville A-line houndstooth coat was made new again with a bright blue background and gingham became chic again with a fit-and-flare dress with a sweet ruffled neckline.
Indeed Henry Holland knows exactly what he's going for. Designing with a "London girl in mind," this collection perfectly suits the customer base he's trying to reach. Holland has perfectly executed an unusual collection that will be sure to be stand out from those of other emerging designers in London Fashion Week.
