Info Post
The one thing that I dislike about spring is the frequency of rainy weather. Rain gets your beautiful clothing and accessories wet, the humidity is a nightmare for women everywhere, and the gloom really gets people down. The latter is especially true for me: everywhere I go, I'll see drab black rain gear. Wet umbrellas everywhere, dull and unhappy expressions abound, and not a hint of color: you can see why I hate rain.
This is why I love bright umbrellas, rain boots, and the like. With such sunny accessories, one can at least pretend that the weather is sunny also. Gray, dismal days call for gorgeous colors. It's a great way to add some cheer when blue skies are nowhere in sight.

These Marc by Marc Jacobs beauties have vivid graphic prints that feel cheerful in a very sophisticated manner. The patterns look beautiful and artistic, not cheesy.

This umbrella is by Echo Design, a brand that is most well-known for its scarves. Unsurprisingly, the brand's talent in turning out beautiful scarf patterns is applied just as successfully to umbrellas. This particular one is available in three different colors on Zappos, so you can choose the one that is most to your liking. The color palette is particularly uplifting.

Although this Felix Rey umbrella isn't exactly sophisticated, its overwhelming cuteness is undeniable. This is probably the most optimistic, happy umbrella I've ever seen. With an adorably feminine smiley face sun and the words "Let the sun shine!" emblazoned on one side, this is undoubtedly the best pick-me-up for a rainy day.
This umbrella is available here.

Good idea or bad idea? This Marc by Marc Jacobs PVC tote has a special exterior slot on the outside of it for the matching umbrella that comes with the bag. It's definitely a handy alternative to always having to lug an umbrella around on rainy days if it isn't small enough to fit in your bag (or it's just too wet). Regardless, it looks a bit odd and there are a few issues here. The tote is cute enough to carry on sunny days as well as rainy days, but it would probably appear even stranger without the umbrella. You couldn't turn it the other way, because then there would be a tubular PVC pocket squished uncomfortably against your torso. And what if the umbrella slips out?
It's a clever idea, but it'll garner some weird expressions on the street. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like a hassle.
The tote is available at Bloomingdale's.

I've never been a fan of rain boots. They're so clunky, and they become so inconvenient when you need to change shoes at your destination. But sometimes, you can find exceptions.

These purple Hunter pairs are more chic than the classic rain boot, with three inch wedges that still have the sturdiness of rubber soles and the same material as any other Hunter boot. The purple color is an interesting color that doesn't look clowny; it will go with everything. The respective lace-up and buckle details maintain sophistication and add unexpected style to such a generic staple.
Another bonus: you don't have to sacrifice heel height because of the bad weather!
Both styles are available on Zappos.

Forego black rain gear! Don't be afraid to add a little sprinkle of color when it's sprinkling outside.

xoxo
