Although there certainly isn't a solid-hued garment to be seen, the collaboration marks a departure from Katrantzou's hyper-feminine structured designs. The printed denim pieces are a perfect harmony between the two labels: the casual, laid-back comfort of Current/Elliott and the colorful optical illusions of Mary Katrantzou prints.
What with the myriad of partnerships popping up in the fashion industry, designers must become more strategic about collaborations. Mary Katrantzou for Current/Elliott displays a business savvy that must set an example for the rest. We see casual daywear meet runway fashion - a meeting that will bring together two clienteles. It is, so to speak, the best of both worlds.
The collection itself, ranging from straight-leg jeans to button-down dresses, lends an abstract tinge to the banknotes and postage marks that showed up at London Fashion Week. Here they are pared down, substituting the runway's sharp, graphic feel with the vibe of lovingly drawn illustrations.
The collection is a delight to see and will no doubt be a success once it is available for sale. Shall I request a mail order?
